backlight: Add BACKLIGHT_POWER_ constants for power states
Duplicate FB_BLANK_ constants as BACKLIGHT_POWER__ constants in the backlight header file. Allows backlight drivers to avoid including the fbdev header file and removes a compile-time dependency between the two subsystems. The new BACKLIGHT_POWER_ constants have the same values as their FB_BLANK_ counterparts. Hence UAPI and internal semantics do not change. The backlight drivers can be converted one by one. Each instance of FB_BLANK_UNBLANK becomes BACKLIGHT_POWER_ON, each of FB_BLANK_POWERDOWN becomes BACKLIGHT_POWER_OFF, and FB_BLANK_NORMAL becomes BACKLIGHT_POWER_REDUCED. Backlight code or drivers do not use FB_BLANK_VSYNC_SUSPEND and FB_BLANK_HSYNC_SUSPEND, so no new constants for these are being added. The semantics of FB_BLANK_NORMAL appear inconsistent. In fbdev, NORMAL means display off with sync enabled. In backlight code, this translates to turn the backlight off, but some drivers interpret it as backlight on. So we keep the current code as is, but mark BACKLIGHT_POWER_REDUCED as deprecated. Drivers should be fixed and the constant removed. This affects ams369fg06 and a few DRM panel drivers. v2: - rename BL_CORE_ power constants to BACKLIGHT_POWER_ (Sam) - fix documentation Signed-off-by: Thomas Zimmermann <tzimmermann@suse.de> Reviewed-by: Daniel Thompson <daniel.thompson@linaro.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20240624152033.25016-2-tzimmermann@suse.de Signed-off-by: Lee Jones <lee@kernel.org> |

misc: keba: Add basic KEBA CP500 system FPGA support
The KEBA CP500 system FPGA is a PCIe device, which consists of multiple IP cores. Every IP core has its own auxiliary driver. The cp500 driver registers an auxiliary device for each device and the corresponding drivers are loaded by the Linux driver infrastructure. Currently 3 variants of this device exists. Every variant has its own PCI device ID, which is used to determine the list of available IP cores. In this first version only the auxiliary device for the I2C controller is registered. Besides the auxiliary device registration some other basic functions of the FPGA are implemented; e.g, FPGA version sysfs file, keep FPGA configuration on reset sysfs file, error message for errors on the internal AXI bus of the FPGA. block: Add core atomic write support
Add atomic write support, as follows:
- add helper functions to get request_queue atomic write limits
- report request_queue atomic write support limits to sysfs and update Doc
- support to safely merge atomic writes
- deal with splitting atomic writes
- misc helper functions
- add a per-request atomic write flag
New request_queue limits are added, as follows:
- atomic_write_hw_max is set by the block driver and is the maximum length
of an atomic write which the device may support. It is not
necessarily a power-of-2.
- atomic_write_max_sectors is derived from atomic_write_hw_max_sectors and
max_hw_sectors. It is always a power-of-2. Atomic writes may be merged,
and atomic_write_max_sectors would be the limit on a merged atomic write
request size. This value is not capped at max_sectors, as the value in
max_sectors can be controlled from userspace, and it would only cause
trouble if userspace could limit atomic_write_unit_max_bytes and the
other atomic write limits.
- atomic_write_hw_unit_{min,max} are set by the block driver and are the
min/max length of an atomic write unit which the device may support. They
both must be a power-of-2. Typically atomic_write_hw_unit_max will hold
the same value as atomic_write_hw_max.
- atomic_write_unit_{min,max} are derived from
atomic_write_hw_unit_{min,max}, max_hw_sectors, and block core limits.
Both min and max values must be a power-of-2.
- atomic_write_hw_boundary is set by the block driver. If non-zero, it
indicates an LBA space boundary at which an atomic write straddles no
longer is atomically executed by the disk. The value must be a
power-of-2. Note that it would be acceptable to enforce a rule that
atomic_write_hw_boundary_sectors is a multiple of
atomic_write_hw_unit_max, but the resultant code would be more
complicated.
All atomic writes limits are by default set 0 to indicate no atomic write
support. Even though it is assumed by Linux that a logical block can always
be atomically written, we ignore this as it is not of particular interest.
Stacked devices are just not supported either for now.
An atomic write must always be submitted to the block driver as part of a
single request. As such, only a single BIO must be submitted to the block
layer for an atomic write. When a single atomic write BIO is submitted, it
cannot be split. As such, atomic_write_unit_{max, min}_bytes are limited
by the maximum guaranteed BIO size which will not be required to be split.
This max size is calculated by request_queue max segments and the number
of bvecs a BIO can fit, BIO_MAX_VECS. Currently we rely on userspace
issuing a write with iovcnt=1 for pwritev2() - as such, we can rely on each
segment containing PAGE_SIZE of data, apart from the first+last, which each
can fit logical block size of data. The first+last will be LBS
length/aligned as we rely on direct IO alignment rules also.
New sysfs files are added to report the following atomic write limits:
- atomic_write_unit_max_bytes - same as atomic_write_unit_max_sectors in
bytes
- atomic_write_unit_min_bytes - same as atomic_write_unit_min_sectors in
bytes
- atomic_write_boundary_bytes - same as atomic_write_hw_boundary_sectors in
bytes
- atomic_write_max_bytes - same as atomic_write_max_sectors in bytes
Atomic writes may only be merged with other atomic writes and only under
the following conditions:
- total resultant request length <= atomic_write_max_bytes
- the merged write does not straddle a boundary
Helper function bdev_can_atomic_write() is added to indicate whether
atomic writes may be issued to a bdev. If a bdev is a partition, the
partition start must be aligned with both atomic_write_unit_min_sectors
and atomic_write_hw_boundary_sectors.
FSes will rely on the block layer to validate that an atomic write BIO
submitted will be of valid size, so add blk_validate_atomic_write_op_size()
for this purpose. Userspace expects an atomic write which is of invalid
size to be rejected with -EINVAL, so add BLK_STS_INVAL for this. Also use
BLK_STS_INVAL for when a BIO needs to be split, as this should mean an
invalid size BIO.
Flag REQ_ATOMIC is used for indicating an atomic write.

blk-throttle: remove CONFIG_BLK_DEV_THROTTLING_LOW
One the one hand, it's marked EXPERIMENTAL since 2017, and looks like there are no users since then, and no testers and no developers, it's just not active at all. On the other hand, even if the config is disabled, there are still many fields in throtl_grp and throtl_data and many functions that are only used for throtl low. At last, currently blk-throtl is initialized during disk initialization, and destroyed during disk removal, and it exposes many functions to be called directly from block layer. Remove throtl low to make code much more cleaner and follow up work much easier. With the possibility of multiple wq drivers that can be bound to the wq, the user config tool accel-config needs a way to know which wq driver to bind to the wq. dmaengine: idxd: add pid to exported sysfs attribute for opened file

dmaengine: idxd: expose fault counters to sysfs
Expose cr_faults and cr_fault_failures counters to the user space. This allows a user app to keep track of how many fault the application is causing with the completion record (CR) and also the number of failures of the CR writeback. Having a high number of cr_fault_failures is bad as the app is submitting descriptors with the CR addresses that are bad. User monitoring daemon may want to consider killing the application as it may be malicious and attempting to flood the device event log. Add support for changing of the event log size. Event log is a feature added to DSA 2.0 hardware to improve error reporting. drivers/xen/hypervisor: Expose Xen SIF flags to userspace
/proc/xen is a legacy pseudo filesystem which predates Xen support getting merged into Linux. It has largely been replaced with more normal locations for data (/sys/hypervisor/ for info, /dev/xen/ for user devices). We want to compile xenfs support out of the dom0 kernel. There is one item which only exists in /proc/xen, namely /proc/xen/capabilities with "control_d" being the signal of "you're in the control domain". This ultimately comes from the SIF flags provided at VM start. This patch exposes all SIF flags in /sys/hypervisor/start_flags/ as boolean files, one for each bit, returning '1' if set, '0' otherwise. Two known flags, 'privileged' and 'initdomain', are explicitly named, and all remaining flags can be accessed via generically named files, as suggested by Andrew Cooper. block: save user max_sectors limit
The user can set the max_sectors limit to any valid value via sysfs /sys/block/<dev>/queue/max_sectors_kb attribute. If the device limits are ever rescanned, though, the limit reverts back to the potentially artificially low BLK_DEF_MAX_SECTORS value. Preserve the user's setting as the max_sectors limit as long as it's valid. The user can reset back to defaults by writing 0 to the sysfs file. accessibility: speakup: phonetic spelling while arrowing letter by letter
This patch includes an enhancement requested frequently on the mailing list.[1][2] It adds a variable, cur_phonetic in the spk_vars, which can be set as a module parameter, as well as in /sys/speakup/cur_phonetic. This patch also documents cur_phonetic as a sysfs attribute in sysfs-driver-speakup. When cur_phonetic=1, it causes speakup to speak letters phonetically if paused on the character while arrowing through a word. When a user does not set cur_phonetic to any value, the default value for it would be 0. dmaengine: idxd: add WQ operation cap restriction support
DSA 2.0 add the capability of configuring DMA ops on a per workqueue basis. This means that certain ops can be disabled by the system administrator for certain wq. By default, all ops are available. A bitmap is used to store the ops due to total op size of 256 bits and it is more convenient to use a range list to specify which bits are enabled. One of the usage to support this is for VM migration between different iteration of devices. The newer ops are disabled in order to allow guest to migrate to a host that only support older ops. Another usage is to restrict the WQ to certain operations for QoS of performance. A sysfs of ops_config attribute is added per wq. It is only usable when the ops_config bit is set under WQ_CAP register. This means that this attribute will return -EOPNOTSUPP on DSA 1.x devices. The expected input is a range list for the bits per operation the WQ supports. Driver core / kernfs changes for 6.0-rc1
Here is the set of driver core and kernfs changes for 6.0-rc1.
"biggest" thing in here is some scalability improvements for kernfs for
large systems. Other than that, included in here are:
- arch topology and cache info changes that have been reviewed
and discussed a lot.
- potential error path cleanup fixes
- deferred driver probe cleanups
- firmware loader cleanups and tweaks
- documentation updates
- other small things
All of these have been in the linux-next tree for a while with no
reported problems.

Char / Misc / Other smaller driver subsystem updates for 5.19-rc1
Here is the large set of char, misc, and other driver subsystem updates for 5.19-rc1. The merge request for this has been delayed as I wanted to get lots of linux-next testing due to some late arrivals of changes for the habannalabs driver. Highlights of this merge are: - habanalabs driver updates for new hardware types and fixes and other updates - IIO driver tree merge which includes loads of new IIO drivers and cleanups and additions - PHY driver tree merge with new drivers and small updates to existing ones - interconnect driver tree merge with fixes and updates - soundwire driver tree merge with some small fixes - coresight driver tree merge with small fixes and updates - mhi bus driver tree merge with lots of updates and new device support - firmware driver updates - fpga driver updates - lkdtm driver updates (with a merge conflict, more on that below) - extcon driver tree merge with small updates - lots of other tiny driver updates and fixes and cleanups, full details in the shortlog. All of these have been in linux-next for almost 2 weeks with no reported problems. Note, there are 3 merge conflicts when merging this with your tree: - MAINTAINERS, should be easy to resolve - drivers/slimbus/qcom-ctrl.c, should be straightforward resolution - drivers/misc/lkdtm/stackleak.c, not an easy resolution. This has been noted in the linux-next tree for a while, and resolved there, here's a link to the resolution that Stephen came up with and that Kees says is correct: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20220509185344.3fe1a354@canb.auug.org.au I will be glad to provide a merge point that contains these resolutions if that makes things any easier for you. bus: mhi: host: Add soc_reset sysfs
The MHI bus supports a standardized hardware reset, which is known as the "SoC Reset". This reset is similar to the reset sysfs for PCI devices - a hardware mechanism to reset the state back to square one. The MHI SoC Reset is described in the spec as a reset of last resort. If some unrecoverable error has occurred where other resets have failed, SoC Reset is the "big hammer" that ungracefully resets the device. This is effectivly the same as yanking the power on the device, and reapplying it. However, depending on the nature of the particular issue, the underlying transport link may remain active and configured. If the link remains up, the device will flag a MHI system error early in the boot process after the reset is executed, which allows the MHI bus to process a fatal error event, and clean up appropiately. While the SoC Reset is generally intended as a means of recovery when all else has failed, it can be useful in non-error scenarios. For example, if the device loads firmware from the host filesystem, the device may need to be fully rebooted inorder to pick up the new firmware. In this scenario, the system administrator may use the soc_reset sysfs to cause the device to pick up the new firmware that the admin placed on the filesystem. blk-crypto: show crypto capabilities in sysfs
Add sysfs files that expose the inline encryption capabilities of
request queues:
/sys/block/$disk/queue/crypto/max_dun_bits
/sys/block/$disk/queue/crypto/modes/$mode
/sys/block/$disk/queue/crypto/num_keyslots
Userspace can use these new files to decide what encryption settings to
use, or whether to use inline encryption at all. This also brings the
crypto capabilities in line with the other queue properties, which are
already discoverable via the queue directory in sysfs.
Design notes:
- Place the new files in a new subdirectory "crypto" to group them
together and to avoid complicating the main "queue" directory. This
also makes it possible to replace "crypto" with a symlink later if
we ever make the blk_crypto_profiles into real kobjects (see below).
- It was necessary to define a new kobject that corresponds to the
crypto subdirectory. For now, this kobject just contains a pointer
to the blk_crypto_profile. Note that multiple queues (and hence
multiple such kobjects) may refer to the same blk_crypto_profile.
An alternative design would more closely match the current kernel
data structures: the blk_crypto_profile could be a kobject itself,
located directly under the host controller device's kobject, while
/sys/block/$disk/queue/crypto would be a symlink to it.
I decided not to do that for now because it would require a lot more
changes, such as no longer embedding blk_crypto_profile in other
structures, and also because I'm not sure we can rule out moving the
crypto capabilities into 'struct queue_limits' in the future. (Even
if multiple queues share the same crypto engine, maybe the supported
data unit sizes could differ due to other queue properties.) It
would also still be possible to switch to that design later without
breaking userspace, by replacing the directory with a symlink.
- Use "max_dun_bits" instead of "max_dun_bytes". Currently, the
kernel internally stores this value in bytes, but that's an
implementation detail. It probably makes more sense to talk about
this value in bits, and choosing bits is more future-proof.
- "modes" is a sub-subdirectory, since there may be multiple supported
crypto modes, sysfs is supposed to have one value per file, and it
makes sense to group all the mode files together.
- Each mode had to be named. The crypto API names like "xts(aes)" are
not appropriate because they don't specify the key size. Therefore,
I assigned new names. The exact names chosen are arbitrary, but
they happen to match the names used in log messages in fs/crypto/.
- The "num_keyslots" file is a bit different from the others in that
it is only useful to know for performance reasons. However, it's
included as it can still be useful. For example, a user might not
want to use inline encryption if there aren't very many keyslots.

topology/sysfs: Add PPIN in sysfs under cpu topology
PPIN is the Protected Processor Identification Number. This is used to identify the socket as a Field Replaceable Unit (FRU). Existing code only displays this when reporting errors. But this makes it inconvenient for large clusters to use it for its intended purpose of inventory control. Add ppin to /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/topology to make what is already available using RDMSR more easily accessible. docs: sysfs-block: fill in missing documentation from queue-sysfs.rst
sysfs documentation is supposed to go in Documentation/ABI/. However, /sys/block/<disk>/queue/* are documented in Documentation/block/queue-sysfs.rst, and sometimes redundantly in Documentation/ABI/stable/sysfs-block too. Let's consolidate this documentation into Documentation/ABI/. Therefore, copy the relevant docs from queue-sysfs.rst into sysfs-block. This primarily means adding the 25 missing files that were documented in queue-sysfs.rst only, as well as mentioning the RO/RW status of files. Documentation/ABI/ requires "Date" and "Contact" fields. For the Date fields, I used the date of the commit which added support for each file. For the "Contact" fields, I used linux-block. x86/sgx: Add an attribute for the amount of SGX memory in a NUMA node
== Problem == The amount of SGX memory on a system is determined by the BIOS and it varies wildly between systems. It can be as small as dozens of MB's and as large as many GB's on servers. Just like how applications need to know how much regular RAM is available, enclave builders need to know how much SGX memory an enclave can consume. == Solution == Introduce a new sysfs file: /sys/devices/system/node/nodeX/x86/sgx_total_bytes to enumerate the amount of SGX memory available in each NUMA node. This serves the same function for SGX as /proc/meminfo or /sys/devices/system/node/nodeX/meminfo does for normal RAM. 'sgx_total_bytes' is needed today to help drive the SGX selftests. SGX-specific swap code is exercised by creating overcommitted enclaves which are larger than the physical SGX memory on the system. They currently use a CPUID-based approach which can diverge from the actual amount of SGX memory available. 'sgx_total_bytes' ensures that the selftests can work efficiently and do not attempt stupid things like creating a 100,000 MB enclave on a system with 128 MB of SGX memory. == Implementation Details == Introduce CONFIG_HAVE_ARCH_NODE_DEV_GROUP opt-in flag to expose an arch specific attribute group, and add an attribute for the amount of SGX memory in bytes to each NUMA node: == ABI Design Discussion == As opposed to the per-node ABI, a single, global ABI was considered. However, this would prevent enclaves from being able to size themselves so that they fit on a single NUMA node. Essentially, a single value would rule out NUMA optimizations for enclaves. Create a new "x86/" directory inside each "nodeX/" sysfs directory. 'sgx_total_bytes' is expected to be the first of at least a few sgx-specific files to be placed in the new directory. Just scanning /proc/meminfo, these are the no-brainers that we have for RAM, but we need for SGX: MemTotal: xxxx kB // sgx_total_bytes (implemented here) MemFree: yyyy kB // sgx_free_bytes SwapTotal: zzzz kB // sgx_swapped_bytes So, at *least* three. I think we will eventually end up needing something more along the lines of a dozen. A new directory (as opposed to being in the nodeX/ "root") directory avoids cluttering the root with several "sgx_*" files. Place the new file in a new "nodeX/x86/" directory because SGX is highly x86-specific. It is very unlikely that any other architecture (or even non-Intel x86 vendor) will ever implement SGX. Using "sgx/" as opposed to "x86/" was also considered. But, there is a real chance this can get used for other arch-specific purposes. Documentation/ABI: Add new attributes for mlxreg-io sysfs interfaces
Add documentation for the new attributes:
- "bios_active_image"; "bios_auth_fail"; "bios_upgrade_fail";
"bios_safe_mode" to represent various BIOS statuses.
- "lc{n}_enable" - for put/release the line card to/from enable state.
- "lc{n}_pwr" - for power on/off the line card.
- "lc{n}_rst_mask" - for line card reset state enforced by ASIC, when
it sets it due to some abnormal ASIC behavior.
- "psu3_on"; "psu4_on" - for connection/disconnection power supply unit
to/from the power source.
- "pm_mgmt_en" - for setting power management control ownership. When
power management control is provided by hardware, it means that
hardware will automatically power off one or more line cards in case
system power budget is under power required for feeding all powered
on line cards. It could be a case, when some of power units lost
power good state.
- "shutdown_unlock" - for unlocking system after hardware or firmware
thermal shutdown, which causes locking of the all interfaces to ASIC.

topology: Represent clusters of CPUs within a die
Both ACPI and DT provide the ability to describe additional layers of
topology between that of individual cores and higher level constructs
such as the level at which the last level cache is shared.
In ACPI this can be represented in PPTT as a Processor Hierarchy
Node Structure [1] that is the parent of the CPU cores and in turn
has a parent Processor Hierarchy Nodes Structure representing
a higher level of topology.
For example Kunpeng 920 has 6 or 8 clusters in each NUMA node, and each
cluster has 4 cpus. All clusters share L3 cache data, but each cluster
has local L3 tag. On the other hand, each clusters will share some
internal system bus.

That means spreading tasks among clusters will bring more bandwidth
while packing tasks within one cluster will lead to smaller cache
synchronization latency. So both kernel and userspace will have
a chance to leverage this topology to deploy tasks accordingly to
achieve either smaller cache latency within one cluster or an even
distribution of load among clusters for higher throughput.
This patch exposes cluster topology to both kernel and userspace.
Libraried like hwloc will know cluster by cluster_cpus and related
sysfs attributes. PoC of HWLOC support at [2].
Note this patch only handle the ACPI case.
Special consideration is needed for SMT processors, where it is
necessary to move 2 levels up the hierarchy from the leaf nodes
(thus skipping the processor core level).
Note that arm64 / ACPI does not provide any means of identifying
a die level in the topology but that may be unrelate to the cluster
level.

dmanegine: idxd: add software command status
Enabling device and wq returns standard errno and that does not provide enough details to indicate what exactly failed. The hardware command status is only 8bits. Expand the command status to 32bits and use the upper 16 bits to define software errors to provide more details on the exact failure. Bit 31 will be used to indicate the error is software set as the driver is using some of the spec defined hardware error as well. - Many static checker driven code clean ups, including a wide
refcount_t conversion
- Several series for the hns driver, more HIP09 HW capabilities,
migration to new HW register manipulators, and code cleanups
- Minor fixes and improvements in srp, rts, and cm
- Improvements throughout for sysfs related code to use
DEVICE_ATTR_*, make the ib_port sysfs first-class, and overall use
sysfs APIs properly
- Intel's new irdma driver replacing i40iw
- rxe general clean ups and Memory Window support"

w1: ds2438: support for writing to offset register
Added a sysfs entry to support writing to the offset register on page1. This register is used to calibrate the chip canceling offset errors in the current ADC. This means that, over time, reading the IAD register will not return the correct current measurement, it will have an offset. Writing to the offset register if the two's complement of the current register while passing zero current to the load will calibrate the measurements. This change was tested on real hardware and it was able to calibrate the chip correctly. Char/Misc driver patches for 5.12-rc1
Here is the large set of char/misc/whatever driver subsystem updates for
5.12-rc1. Over time it seems like this tree is collecting more and more
tiny driver subsystems in one place, making it easier for those
maintainers, which is why this is getting larger.
Included in here are:
- coresight driver updates
- habannalabs driver updates
- virtual acrn driver addition (proper acks from the x86
maintainers)
- broadcom misc driver addition
- speakup driver updates
- soundwire driver updates
- fpga driver updates
- amba driver updates
- mei driver updates
- vfio driver updates
- greybus driver updates
- nvmeem driver updates
- phy driver updates
- mhi driver updates
- interconnect driver udpates
- fsl-mc bus driver updates
- random driver fix
- some small misc driver updates (rtsx, pvpanic, etc.)
All of these have been in linux-next for a while, with the only reported
issue being a merge conflict in include/linux/mod_devicetable.h that you
will hit in your tree due to the dfl_device_id addition from the fpga
subsystem in here. The resolution should be simple.

Drivers: hv: vmbus: Add /sys/bus/vmbus/hibernation
When a Linux VM runs on Hyper-V, if the host toolstack doesn't support hibernation for the VM (this happens on old Hyper-V hosts like Windows Server 2016, or new Hyper-V hosts if the admin or user doesn't declare the hibernation intent for the VM), the VM is discouraged from trying hibernation (because the host doesn't guarantee that the VM's virtual hardware configuration will remain exactly the same across hibernation), i.e. the VM should not try to set up the swap partition/file for hibernation, etc. x86 Hyper-V uses the presence of the virtual ACPI S4 state as the indication of the host toolstack support for a VM. Currently there is no easy and reliable way for the userspace to detect the presence of the state (see https://lkml.org/lkml/2020/12/11/1097). Add /sys/bus/vmbus/hibernation for this purpose.
